Cobalt Sulphate

Suitable for application with fertiliser.

Application rates and usage:
Fertiliser - an initial capital application of 350g/ha applied in the late spring. Timing is important as pasture cobalt levels remain elevated for only 6-8 weeks, therefore applications should occur in the spring. Cobalt takes at least a month to get into herbage through the fertiliser so to ensure adequate levels have been reached in the herbage, test the herbage 4-6 weeks after application. After several years of capital applications, maintenance rates can be generally reduced to 175g/ha annually.

Copper Sulphate

Copper Sulphate (also known as Bluestone) fine grade. 98% Purity.

Benefits of Copper Sulphate:

  • Copper supplement for the prevention and treatment of copper deficiency.
  • Suitable for oral daily drenching, addition to the drinking water, addition to supplementary feed, foliar application (preferably with a suitable sticking agent) or application with fertiliser.

Application rates and usage:
Animal Health - Copper Sulphate can be administered as an oral drench, through the drinking water or added to supplementary feed. For dose rates please consult your animal health adviser. It can also be dissolved in water and sprayed onto pasture as a foliar application, at a rate of 2kg/ha. Foliar application should be done in the autumn, winter or early spring, as these are the periods of peak requirement. The foliar application can also be applied at the same rate to pasture that is due to be cut, or has just been cut, for hay, silage or baleage.

Fertiliser for pasture - Copper Sulphate can be added to fertiliser and applied directly to pasture to elevate herbage copper concentrations. For sheep and cattle, rates are 5-10kg/ha annually in autumn. For deer rates are 12kg/ha annually in autumn. Copper takes at least a month to get into herbage through the fertiliser so to ensure adequate levels have been reached in the herbage, test the herbage 4-6 weeks after application.

Fertiliser for crops - Copper Sulphate can be applied directly to soil pre-sowing at 5-10kg/ha, which may result in a long-term residual effect. Under dryland cereal cropping, broadcast application of Copper Sulphate may be ineffective due to low soil moisture. Foliar applications need to be made with caution, as it is extremely toxic. Thus it is advisable to dilute to 0.75-1.0 kg/ha in 200 litres of water and repeat to avoid toxicity. These applications are proving to be most effective when applied at the mid to late tillering stage.

Capability and precautions:
Animal Health - Copper Sulphate can be mixed with most other oral nutritional animal health products. It is soluble in water so can be administered through the drinking water, however it can be corrosive to machinery so check with your equipment supplier first.

Do not administer to animals at the same time as using high doses of zinc for facial eczema prevention (North Island only), as copper supplementation may interfere with the protective effects of zinc.

Available in bags sized up to 25 kg, minimum order quantity is 1 kg.

Kieserite

Kieserite is a naturally occurring mineral that is chemically known as Magnesium Sulfate Monohydrate. It is mined from geologic marine deposits and provides a soluble source of both Magnesium (Mg - 15%) and Sulphur (S - 20%) for plant nutrition. It comes in creamy brown/white uneven sized granules ranging in size between 2.5 - 4.0mm.

Kieserite:

  • Is typically used in cropping, horticulture, market gardening, and for maize production.
  • Is an effective Magnesium and Sulphur source for all crops and in all types of soil regardless of soil pH.
  • Contains Magnesium and Sulphur in water soluble forms which are readily available to the plant.

Selenium

Selenium is a trace element which is essential for animals but not for plants. In animals, Se is
important for the immune system and also for the thyroid gland.

Application rates:
350-500g/ha.

Sulphate of Potash (Potassium Sulphate)

Benefits of Sulphate of Potash:

  • Provides potassium to crops sensitive to chloride and salt.
  • Contains a low salt index helping to avoid the plant taking up excess water.
  • Encourages flowering and fruiting on plants and vegetables.
  • Mixes well with all other fertilisers.

Application rates and advice:
Actual spreading rates will vary according to farm type, climate, productivity and soil type.
Home gardens: Apply 50-100 grams per square metre and water in.

As with most solid fertilisers, Sulphate of Potash can be stored over a season as long as it is kept in a cool, dry, well ventilated area.

Sulphur

Atomic Sulphur also known as Flowers of Sulphur, Brimstone.

Suitable for animal and garden use.

Available in bags sized up to 25 kg, minimum order quantity is 1 kg.

Sulphur Pastille (LeaderSul90)

A degradable sulphur pastille (LeaderSul90) can be applied alone or blended with other granular or finer fertilisers both as a source of plant nutrient or as a soil amendment for correcting alkali soils. Sulphur is important in protein structure and also assists with photosynthesis. An average release period of around six months compares favourably to 90% of other sulphurs that are faster release. In addition it has a higher pH meaning limited if any detrimental effect on soil pH.

Most other products can be blended with LeaderSul90.

LeaderSul90 is Bio Gro certified (no. 5101). Click here to download the Bio Gro certificate.
